Kendrick v Drake : Who’s Up?

A lot has happened since we last talked about Kendrick’s diss at Drake in “Like That” on Future and Metro Boomin’s record “WE DON’T TRUST YOU” in our last edition.

I’m not sure anyone predicted we would get essentially two EPs from each artist as a result of this feud. It does seem that the beef is coming to an end.

Let’s give a bullet recap (as best we can):

Who's up?

Slim Shady’s Dead

Eminem announced The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in April following his 2024 NFL Draft appearance. The announcement came in the style of an Unsolved Mysteries episode, and revealed “Summer 2024” as the release date.

The video shares “through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies”.

The unsolved mystery is not the first of the lore Eminem has released prior to the album release. An obituary ad for Slim Shady himself was seen in the paper of Marshall’s hometown, the Detroit Free Press.

On May 20th, the artist posted a “cryptic tweet” displaying an iMessage with disappearing text, “… and for my last trick!”, dated as May 31st at 12:00am. Fans assume this will be the first single off the upcoming album, as May 31st is still considered spring.

The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), serves as the follow-up to the 2020 record Music to Be Murdered By.

Gainesville Music Venue Closes Doors

A casualty to the rapid expansion of Gainesville, the beloved music venue the High Dive closed their doors with their last show on May 19th.

Pat Lavery, High Dive owner, made an official release on the venue’s social media. Sadness and frustration flooded the comments, with anticipation of the venue’s last shows and potential plans for the future.

It’s unclear whether the High Dive will move into an existing location, or build a new venue of its own. In the meantime, the High Dive is selling “Keep the Dive Alive” and “Gainesville Won’t Back Down” t-shirts.
